13 Sep Why winter weddings are worth considering
As the nights slowly start to draw in and we enjoy the last throes of summer, at Brickhouse Vineyard we are already starting to prepare for our winter wedding season.
Winter weddings and winter elopement packages are becoming increasingly popular and they offer a range of benefits that really are worth considering when you are thinking about the timing of your own intimate wedding day. Before you automatically gravitate to a June/July wedding or elopement, you might want to consider the benefits of a winter wedding or winter elopement.
Winter weddings are beautiful and original
One of the challenges when getting married is to create a look and feel to your day that reflects the two of you and your relationship, creating an experience that’s unique and not a carbon copy of the last three weddings you’ve been guests at. This is your day and you should to own it.
The winter months offer shorter days and colder weather allowing you to be really creative with your wedding styling, the shape of your day and even your winter wedding dress.
For example, winter and Skandi-styling go hand-in-hand. Our Round House lends itself perfectly to ivy, moss and wintery twigs incorporated into seasonal floral design. Go large on fairy lights and candles and enjoy a candle-lit ceremony and celebration. Imagine departing your wedding ceremony through a tunnel of sparklers held by your guests. For yourself, match your theme with a winter wedding dress that incorporates a cape and/or fur. Replace flower crowns with winter – berries and feathers and bring on that gorgeous smokey-eye look that works so well for so many of us.
Winter food and drinks
Another point of difference that you can really let your imagination’s go to town on is your food and drink. Serve mulled wine as a warming welcome drink with mini-mince pies, toast your marriage with a measure of malt whiskey and finish your meal with coffees laced with your favourite spirits.
For your food, rather than spring and summer think hearty comfort food. Sharing platters of Camembert with hunks of fresh crusty bread, slow cooked beef in red wine with winter root vegetables and steaming hot apple crumble with luscious custard. It’s not traditional wedding food, but who doesn’t love this type of food? It’s a chance to incorporate all your favourite dishes into your wedding day.
Winter weddings and elopement packages are lower cost
Basic principles of supply and demand mean that there are some real bargains to be had for those willing to consider an intimate winter wedding or winter elopement. Gone are the days of weddings being constrained to the traditional summer “wedding season”. By choosing a Brickhouse Vineyard for winter wedding you’ll be saving £150 when compared to a like-for-like summer package. In addition to this your travel and accommodation costs are likely to be significantly lower too. What’s more, our winter rates apply from October to March so there is plenty of time and a good choice of dates to take advantage of these reduce rates.
The beauty of Devon ‘out of season’
We don’t pretend to have any control over the weather, but what we can say is that the West Country generally has more sunshine and milder winters than many other parts of the UK, meaning you have a better chance of a sunny winter wedding day in our corner of the UK.
Moreover, we know that many of our couples choose to marry in Devon as they have happy memories of summer holidays spent in the area. As a result many of these couples come back in those same summer months. Just when everything is at it’s busiest and can sometimes mean busier roads making travelling difficult, accommodation and restaurants being fully booked or crowded, packed beaches and towns etc. If you prefer hassle–free travel, a great choice of value for money accommodation, bracing walks on deserted beaches, easy access to great dining experiences and country pubs with log fires then the winter months may well suit you better.
But don’t tell everyone…!
Access to the best suppliers and their full and undivided attention
The summer wedding season can get frantic for the most popular (and therefore probably the best) wedding service suppliers. This means you may not always get access to your first choice suppliers. We work with some amazingly talented local businesses who supply photography and videography, wedding-day flowers, catering, styling and much more, all of whom will always do their best to accommodate our couples.
However, booking a winter wedding will mean that you have far more chance of achieving your first choice team to provide all the special extras that will make your wedding day just perfect. What’s more you can expect easier access to these suppliers as they have more time for you ahead of your special day in the winter months, something that only enhances your wedding experience.
